The Warrior-Scholar Project is an Operation Opportunity program that provides mentoring for former service members who wish to attend a four-year university. The Warrior-Scholar Project will guide former military personnel through the college admissions process, prepare them for the changed social circumstances, and provide them with the skills required for success in the college classroom.

Returning veterans are often faced with the daunting reality that they are unprepared for life outside of the military, and navigating a complex range of college applications and programs of study can be difficult and confusing. Furthermore, once enrolled, adjusting to an unfamiliar and fundamentally different social environment at college is an enormous challenge. The Warrior-Scholar Project seeks to help veterans gain admission into the college of their choice and then prepare them to thrive in their new environments.

Warrior-Scholars will work with an Ivy Corps mentor who will be a veteran currently attending or graduated from college and will provide them with assistance and advice during the college application and assimilation process. Warrior-Scholars will receive personalized tutoring for standardized tests, advice on college entrance applications and how to properly highlight their leadership experience from their time in service, help with developing a list of target schools, and guidance on how to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Additionally, Operation Opportunity is planning to host a week-long workshop at Yale University in summer 2012 for Warrior-Scholars. The event will allow Warrior-Scholars to build a network of peers and focus on developing the skills mentioned above.
