Walk for Water is an event sponsored by Operation Opportunity which is a project that will bring aid to a village in the Dominican Republic. Water is one of the world's most precious natural resources. Children's tiny bodies are particularly dependent on clean water and susceptible to water-related diseases and parasites. When clean water is scarce, all aspects of life are impacted. By installing an irrigation system and implementing a land exchange, 125 families will begin to see improvements in the quality of their lives. Households that once had no land will have their own fields to farm and the means to provide for their families. This project is not to be considered a fund raiser. Fusion will work to educate people about the leading causes of poverty and how it is affecting the people of the Dominican Republic. Participants for the Walk for Water will gather at Black Rock Church at 12 pm on Oct. 26 and walk 2 miles to Lake Mohegan with empty buckets, fill them up with water, turn around and walk back to raise awareness about poverty and clean water issues in the Dominican Republic. Our small groups in the high school ministry at Black Rock Church supports a couple families through World Vision in the Dominican Republic. This summer 11 students and 3 leaders had the opportunity to go and visit the families and found that a couple of them do not have houses to live in. God has put it on our hearts to raise money through change bottles (which you can pick up on Tuesday nights at Fusion or on Sunday mornings Oct. 12 and 19th) to help build a new home for these families. Our goal is to raise $5,000 by Thanksgiving through change bottles. Please put change, bills and checks (made to Black Rock Church) in the change container and return back to the church by November 30th. |
